Running for Ohio’s 68th House District Representative

Issue Statements

Our district's continued growth and success depends largely upon our ability to attract and keep businesses that provide quality, long-term employment options for district residents. I will work diligently as your representative with my colleagues to assure that our tax and regulatory policies are in line with that goal.

No one likes high taxes, whether it is called a tax, a “penalty” or a governmental fee added to the normal cost of doing business. Often, raising taxes becomes the first option for many in government, instead of the last one. I am focused on real solutions for reducing our taxes and spending in state government.

Government Spending

Keeping government spending down is the first way to avoid raising taxes. I will make it a priority to review and advocate for streamlining all state government operations, along with reducing the bureaucracy that forces spending to increase.

Local Taxes

Shifting the tax burden from the state level to the local level doesn't alleviate the tax burden. Removing regulatory and statutory restrictions from local communities so that they can thrive will be a top priority.

As an education policy researcher, I strongly believe in true local control of education and the rights of parents to direct the education of their children.

Common Core

The Common Core State Standards have been a focus of mine during my work in the Ohio House. This state-embraced federal mandate has too many strings attached, has created chaos in the classroom, and forced teachers to teach to a test instead of teaching kids how to think. I will push to repeal the current Common Core-centric statutes, and work to return to Ohio-developed, content-based standards aligned with norm-referenced tests. This will provide stability for Ohio’s students, teachers and administrators, while providing top-quality education for Ohio’s future.

I am a mother of two (now grown) children. I strongly hold to the principles in our founding documents that all of us have been created equal and have the unalienable right to life. I will work to prevent our tax dollars from going to organizations that are profiting from the taking of defenseless unborn human life. I strongly support life-affirming organizations who offer hope to both pregnant mothers and their children.

The 2nd Amendment

I strongly believe in the right acknowledged in our Constitution for each individual to both keep and bear arms. This is not limited solely to the armed forces, but is a protected right for every responsible, law-abiding citizen. As such, I will not support any efforts to ban, limit, restrict or confiscate firearms from law-abiding Ohioans.

Military / Veterans

As a veteran of the Ohio Air National Guard, the wife of a veteran, and the mother of a Navy sailor, support for our armed services and recognition of their inseparable tie to our country's freedom is a part of who I am. I will work in Columbus to ensure our veterans are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve and permit them to protect themselves from those who intend them harm.

Freedom of Religion

The first Amendment to the US Constitution begins with these words: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...” This language was created to prohibit the state from mandating one type of Christianity over another and to ensure that American citizens had the right to live out their faith — not only to worship as they chose but to live out their values and beliefs in every aspect of their daily lives. I support the Constitutions of the United States and the State of Ohio, including the Bill of Rights, and I will oppose government attempts to dilute or take away our natural rights.

Family Farms

As the Central Ohio Director for the End the Ohio Estate Tax Campaign, I successfully fought to end this destructive tax. Family farms are an integral part of a healthy and successful community. I will work just as hard with farmers to protect their businesses from overregulation, their wallets from substantial increases in CAUV and other taxes and their land from greedy governmental agencies.
